Classes are 45 to 50 minutes once a week for 8 weeks, 4:00-4:50.
Classes taught by teacher/ literacy expert, Keena Melville, M.A. and MFT/drama therapist, Liz McDonough, who have decades of combined experience working with autism.
What better way for students to gain self awareness than to journey to the depths of their miraculous brains! Led by Liz, Keena and their animal tour guides, students will explore the brain's role in learning, memory, emotions, imagination and planning. This lively experiential class combines drama, science and social-emotional learning as it provides a foundation for emotional regulation.
Tuesdays 4:00-4:50 starts 4/13/21-6/1/21 (Ages 13-17)
We interrupt your browsing with an important Puppet Service Announcement! Essential social skills such as expressing feelings, emotional problem-solving, and empathy can all be targeted through puppet work. Students will also explore aspects of themselves in this creative class that combines art, drama, and literacy.
Thursdays 4:00-4:45 starts 4/22/21- 6/10/21 (ages 12-16)
Who doesn't love a good mystery? With detective hats in tow, students will travel the virtual globe to uncover clues and solve mysteries. This play-based group will introduce different cultures as it targets executive functioning, critical thinking, and perspective-taking. Finally, it will introduce concepts of managing frustration and building resilience in the face of challenges.
In Progress Now- next round coming soon!
Imagine a class where your tween or teen could learn to read social cues, cooperate with peers, increase cognitive flexibility, reduce anxiety, improve social reciprocity, AND actually enjoy themselves? Look no further than Dandelion Drama! Informed by current research and 16 years of autism drama experience, students will discover new aspects of themselves and create lasting connections.
Fridays 4:00-4:50 starts March 5th, 2021 (ages 13-17)
Keena, Liz and your child will bring stories alive through movement, drama and multisensory experiences. By making sense of the story with their five senses- students become part of its unfolding. This not only fosters comprehension but a love of reading itself. This class is perfect for students with autism who are able to decode but not fully grasp the meaning. Coming soon! Ages 11-13 and 14-17
Keena and Liz are committed to bringing autism education around the world. One aspect of this mission is laying the groundwork for our students to become neuro-ambassadors. Creating a virtual space where students of different neuro-types and cultures can play, learn and make lasting connections is the long-term vision. We were serious when we said we wanted to give our students the world! This program is inspired by Dr. Pamela Wolfberg's Integrated Play Group Model (R)
We serve children and teens on the spectrum and other neurological differences, with moderate and high verbal capacity, ages 11-17. Please contact us to see if Dandelion Clubhouse would be a good fit for your child. We do have some scholarships available to families who need them.
